On 25 June, the Living Library event in Prague, dedicated to the theme of gender equality, takes place at Impact Hub Prague, organised by HUB Mladá Boleslav. The Prague edition puts a spotlight on everyday gender roles and the people who quietly challenge them — an opportunity for meeting, listening and open dialogue.

The event is part of the European project COTAF – Connected Towns for a Shared Future (funded under the CERV – Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme of the European Commission), which promotes intercultural dialogue and active participation through the direct involvement of local communities.

The Format

The Living Library is a participatory format that originated in Denmark and has since spread across Europe: the “living books” are real people who share their stories with readers in short, authentic one-to-one conversations, breaking down prejudice and opening space for mutual understanding. There is no fee to “borrow” a book — only a willingness to listen.

The Topics

  • Women working in male-dominated professions (technology, trades, transport)
  • Caring fathers and men on parental leave
  • Men in caring professions (early education, healthcare)
  • Breaking gender expectations in sport, appearance or career
  • Changing gender roles across generations

Moments of one-to-one listening alternate with informal spaces for meeting and discussion, designed to foster authentic connections among participants who engage directly with the living books — people sharing first-hand experiences and perspectives. The event is open to the public and participation is free of charge.

Be human — see, speak, listen, understand.
